Lip Favourites - High End Edition

Lipstick is truly something I can no longer live without. For years, I didn't think I could pull it off. It was always something for my mum, or older women; I felt like I just looked like I was trying too hard with my lips all made up. However, I now know what that I was missing out. So many shades to try. So many different kinds, brands... I'm like a small child in a sweetshop any time I'm near lipsticks!

So I thought I'd start a little lip product series, starting with my favourite "high end" lipsticks. I can't claim to have tried many (I'm a student with a small-ish budget) but I do like to spurge from time to time!

MAC - Blankety
I love a good nude shade; I'm fairly pale and they work well with my skin tone. You can't get much more nude than MAC's Blankety. At first, I was less than a fan. In fact, I hated it. I applied it (somewhat clumsily) and looked like I'd smeared concealer all over my lips. Thus Mr Blankety ended up at the back of a drawer for a while. Just before Christmas I came back home and discovered it again and decided to give it a second chance. Well, I am very glad I did. You can't be too heavy-handed with it, else, yes, you will look like you were going for the invisible-lipped look which is never attractive. But apply it lightly and sparingly and give it a good spread over your lips, and you can achieve a really nice subtle shade. It is ever so creamy and feels really good on. I'd recommend giving it a try but beware - it is a very pale nude!

Chanel - Rouge Allure, Romantic
As soon as I saw this lipstick at the Chanel counter I knew I had to have it. I fell in love with the colour instantly and bought it right away. This is my absolute favourite red shade - a deep pinky-red, it is just perfect. The formula is really nice too; it has good staying power but doesn't dry out my lips. I have no idea if they still sell this as I bought it over a year ago, but Chanel lipsticks are definitely worth looking into if you want to treat yourself.

Nars - Tolede
I was in Edinburgh before Christmas and went into Harvey Nichols to look at the makeup. I had a bit of a pre-exam period splurge and picked up a lipstick, an eye shadow and a nail varnish, all from Nars. I've loved Nars ever since I got my Deep Throat blush, which I use every single day! The lip colour that I originally liked had sold out, but the sales assistant showed me another which she thought I might like, and believe me, I could go back and kiss her! This is my absolute favourite lipstick ever, and I mean EVER! Not only is it a beautiful colour (sort of midway between a nude and a pinky shade) but it has the most wonderful moisturising formula ever. I can't tell you how much you need to go out right this second and buy this!

All of these lipsticks are great, but if you are looking for a really good quality, every day, super wearable lipstick, you must consider Tolede by Nars. You won't regret it, I promise!
